Dirk's passive power is verbal mind control.
It works a little something like this at it's most extreme. Dirk offers a suggestion or some advice and a character may feel compelled to follow it - it's completely up to player discretion on whether or not they want to be affected by it, and how much!
It's not always active and it doesn't always affect people, but this is just a handy dandy post to keep track of who is alright with what. I'll be contacting players regardless and am completely open to being contacted if someone would like to do some sort of plot with this!

» STRINGS - Dirk's weapon is a marionette controller, but the actual weaponized part of it is the strings. Dirk can control any aspect of the string, so long as he is able to maintain a connection with the string. While they come off of the controller, he could in theory wrap them around his fingers for more direct control - but that runs the risk of breaking them, or worse, severing them completely.
The strings function as a means of restraint, restriction, and can be used as one may expect string to be used. Offensively, it can be used to smother or strangle, but it primarily exists as a means of crowd control for particularly rowdy or dangerous witches.

TECHNOMORPHISM - The ability to transform into this form. At it's beginning stages, the change only adds a little durability and is largely cosmetic and can only be accessed while he's transformed. He's restricted to the brobot form. With subesequent upgrades to this power he could receive enhanced durability and mild transformative abilities, such as changing his hands into tools.

There are a lot of wacky game mechanics. Homestuck basically resolves around weird time shit, paradoxes, children suffering, children dying, and shipping. Dirk is the second iteration of Bro Strider, guardian of Dave Strider. When the Beta kids scratched the disc in order to reset their unwinnable game, Dirk took Dave's place as a Derse Dreamer and hero.
Dirk is created as a paradox clone of himself. His friends are also created as paradoxical clones. They're destined to play a game that will destroy the Earth and create a new universe. They're sent to Earth via time portals and due to some bizarre error, he's sent into the far future along with Roxy. Dirk grows up with only a horrifying puppet for company and meets Roxy in this unspecified period of time. He later invents robots to keep him company, including an AI mapped from his own brain.
He's then introduced to Jake and Jane through UU, an alien friend and fangirl of their adventures to come. uu, her brother, is another "friend" of his and they share a weird aggressive sort of friendship. Dirk also develops romantic feelings for Jake somewhere in this time period. Dirk spends most of his time carefully putting together a plan of action for the game, looking to find everything he can possibly know about it to ensure he will be the absolute puppet master. The AI consistently tries to insert itself in his affairs, leading to headaches and irritation all around. Roxy makes constant, somewhat aggressive romantic advancements towards Dirk, making him uncomfortable.
They come of age and the time to play the game comes. Literally everything that could possibly go wrong does and they're forced to enter the game in an atypical fashion. Dirk saves all three of his friends, kills himself, and then gets "revived" via a kiss to his severed head from Jake thanks to magical game mechanics. They don't prototype their kernel sprites before entering, which means they enter a dead world. All they can do is wait for the Legendary Heroes from another session to come and bring their world to life.
Six months pass. Dirk and Jake start dating and it goes sour pretty quickly, as Dirk turns out to be rather needy and clingy in stark contrast to his online persona. He's still manipulative on top of it, driving a wedge between them. None of the kids are really talking to each other due to Teen Angst. Dirk's powers manifest as "splinters" of himself. All splinters are pretty much exactly like him and like to meddle with other people because he thinks he knows best. It leads to a very miserable, self-loathing, depressed Dirk.
He prototypes his glasses with a dead troll named Equius and results in ARquiusprite. He hates it. His friends get high on magical cheatcode candy. Dirk ends up being dragged into it. Unlike them, he's not affected by the crazy sugarhigh and remains in perfect control of himself and his emotions. He tells Jake off and breaks up with him, then shit goes even more haywire and they all end up in their quest beds. Then thanks to moon explosions, they die and come back as God Tier.
Somehow shit goes even more wrong. The heroes they've been waiting for arrive and are immediately mind controlled. Jane (mind controlled), Jake and Roxy are left to contend with the mess and Dirk ends up outside of the furthest ring. It's not good. Jane and Jake are killed. Dirk rushes back to try to get to everyone in time. One of his splinters becomes real, witnesses the whole mess, and Dirk loses everyone. He says he's failed and gives up, drifting off into the glitching, twisting space.
John gains the ability to travel through time to change key events. Dirk isn't shown yet, but it's presumed that he's back on the outer ring trying to get back. It's a new timeline, and so several key events have changed. I'll be playing Dirk from the previous timeline so this does not matter.
Dirk Strider is not your average teenager. Although rather quiet, he has an intensity about him that makes him rather hard to ignore. The word "half-assed" is not in his vocabulary. Dirk goes 200 percent at every single thing he does, overachieving and aiming high. At his worst, he's controlling, pushy, strange, and a bit of an insufferable know-it-all. Even excluding the downright bizarreness of some of the things he says and does, there is no mistaking this young man as anything other than an undeniable freak of nature. His friends remark that he has a way of getting exactly what he wants, through mind games and force, and has said himself that he is in control at all times.
It's unsurprising, given that Dirk refers to himself as the one pulling all of the strings. He places Jane in the role of leader, but adds that it will be "in name only" as he plans on manipulating every event behind the scenes. He moves his friends something like chess pieces, never really stopping to ask if they're alright with his plans or revealing them beyond what he absolutely has to. He thinks that he can do it all. He even thinks its expected of him. Dirk relies on a lot of manipulative tactics. He plays a constant mindgame with Jake to try to get him to be more skeptical, using the autoresponder to keep him on his toes and never certain whether he's speaking to the real Strider or the one inside the glasses. Dirk also uses a lot of "I" statements to sway opinion without directly telling people what to do. He makes it seem as though he's just offering his input and a long explanation of the reasoning behind it, leaving them free to do as they wish but making it clear what he thinks would be best and nudging them towards that decision whatever way he can. This occasionally breaks, leaving him stating what he thinks seems to be obvious and he will leave no room for argument. As well as less than gentle means, taking the Brobot and it's brutal treatment of Jake in order to shape him into, in Dirk's own words, a "killing machine". We see this in how his Pre-Scratch self treats Dave, playing a constant game of cat and mouse often ending in a rough Strife session. Dirk can be cold and disconnected.
Even so, he does genuinely mean well. Dirk cares for his friends. His best trait is his love for them. It's clear that he's there for them no matter what, offering comfort to both Roxy and Jane when they need it. He understands more than anyone else the gravity of their situation. This isn't to say he can't be callous - he is, quite frequently, an asshole.
This also leads to a problem where he tries to take too much on himself. Dirk stated that he does not sleep. He was constantly aware and on the move even before the game, whether in Derse or in the waking world. Additionally, he spends much time micromanaging events and people. As if his dual identities isn't enough, he claims to have built robots for the purpose of managing everything he can't at the time. All in all, way too much on this plate - he's willing to acknowledge it, but will never willingly lessen the load placed upon his shoulders. Dirk cannot give up his control, no matter how much he would like to. Dirk also makes a regular habit of long, winding extended metaphors. His explanations are rarely short and concise, though his responses to every day conversation may be as much as a single word.
Irony, for the Strider family, is a way of explaining bizarre behavior. "Irony" is a magic word that makes anything automatically cool to Dave. Whereas while Dirk does much the same, his meaning of "irony" is closer to the textbook definition and is used in extravagant, barely comprehensible manners. He worships the ground his brother walks on, but unlike Dave he is not blind to his flaws. He takes cues from his Bro's actions and reinvents them. There is always a note of sincerity in what he does - from building Jane a robotic bunny made from a priceless heirloom, to his over the top obsession with puppets.
He's a smart guy. Characteristic to his speaking patterns are the random flourishes of vocabulary amidst an otherwise dry and to the point dialogue. He's been able to build fully functioning combat robots for years, not even touching on the fact that he has created AI at a very young age. Dirk doesn't believe in just viewing them as cold, emotionless programs. He's adamant about treating them equally, not even leaving the auto-responder just for it's intended task of answering or handling things that he can't. Dirk has a plan for every possible scenario - so long as there's a scenario happening. He doesn't take well to waiting. He's a man of action, not one of patience.
He's noted to be clingy and desperately needy, apparently disliking being alone and being very difficult to keep up with. It causes problems between him and Jake, and the strain there leads him to distance himself from both Roxy and Jane. He's not nearly as ruthless as one may think, haboring a secret heart that he's not quite able to protect from hurt. And unfortunately, he's the most prone to hurting it. Dirk holds himself responsible for everything that happens, whether it is actually in his control or not.
And he's acutely aware of his every fault. Dirk is surrounded by people of his own making. His Bro died centuries before he was born, leaving him to be raised by nothing but himself and the reflections of himself. In his dystopian future he's pretty alone. He refers to Lil Cal, a creepy puppet apparently heirloom of his brother's, as his "best friend" and refuses to harm him though he's been informed that Cal might actually be dangerous. Dirk attaches sentimental value on things and highly respects the life, or at least the cognitive workings, of his creations. This is entirely unsurprising as, again, he grew up alone with only reflections of himself for guidance. With his ability to "splinter" his consciousness, he's constantly faced with himself and has actually grown to loathe himself because of it.

I'm picking this gem for a few reasons. First and foremost, Dirk is not in harmony in himself. Despite the most pivotal flash concerning him being called Dirk: Unite Synchronize, Dirk is so far out of sync with himself that parts of himself are even working to sabotage him. He's insecure, he's paranoid, he's even kind of grown to hate himself due to the constant exposure to all the aspects of himself he doesn't like. Dirk laments that he is a "Heart Player who is just a stone cold motherfucker", which while not being strictly true, is pretty astute.
The violet flame opal encourages breaking away from self-imposed bonds and allowing for better spiritual understanding of one's self. With the placement in the center of his forehead, it would mesh with both his cerebral need for understanding and the need for him to stop over analyzing things and properly harmonize his heart with his head.
The transformation of negativity will also keep him from focusing too hard on his negative traits.
Clairsentience will also mean he's more aware of other people's emotions, leading him to be less likely to act rashly for "their own benefit" and more likely to stop and listen to what they want and need from him. It will help significantly with his character growth.

He's had pretty much nothing to do with his life but to train himself to do this, and so he's effectively going from being level 99 to starting over again at level 1... and then developing in an entirely different direction. Dirk will be pretty uneasy about it, but ultimately a little relieved that it'll be just him - no splinters.
Empathy would be the hardest ability to cope with, given Dirk's general awkwardness and struggles with emotion. Instead of dealing with his internal turmoil, he'll also have to cope with other people's emotions as well.

He is an odd guy. There is no way around that. Dirk's room is covered in fetish fuel, and he drops casual references to his extreme love of puppets in every day conversation. "Smuppets", an overtly sexual puppet that sports a bulbous ass and a phallic nose, are his own creation and he has a pile of them at the foot of his bed. He worships the ground his brother walks on, but unlike Dave he is not blind to his flaws. He takes cues from his Bro's actions and reinvents them. There is always a note of sincerity in what he does - from building Jane a robotic bunny made from a priceless heirloom, to his over the top obsession with puppets.
Underneath all of it is a very sensitive young man. Dirk knows his flaws better than anyone else, but can't quite find the means to stop them. He's noted to be clingy and desperately needy, apparently disliking being alone and being very difficult to keep up with. He's not nearly as ruthless as one may think, haboring a secret heart that he's not quite able to protect from hurt and is loyal to a fault. He has feeling, and he doesn't much care when they get shit all over. He would much rather hurt himself than see any of his friends hurt or suffering, even if it means death or suffering the weight of his own overbearing company.

Dirk is a master of robotics. Given the technology of the age he was born into (though all humans are long dead) Dirk builds robots and computers much like a child puts toys together. At the age of thirteen he was able to program a sophisticated AI based off of his own brain that can learn and grow.
INTELLIGENCE:
The boy has a hand in every pie and an iron in every fire. Dirk's good at learning the mechanics of things and coming up with plots and plans. He's as smart as they come, though not particularly gifted in dealing with his own emotions and problems.
COMBAT PROFICIENCY:
Dirk is as close to a master swordsman as one can get to in an age where all the other ones are dead. He's entirely self-taught, but he's powerful enough to take down nigh impossible foes with his blade. In the end he's still a human boy with human weaknesses, but give him his sword and it will be quite difficult to take him down. Dirk's also noted to enjoy turning other objects into weaponry for fun, including but not limited to a strange santa statue.
INSOMNIA:
Dirk doesn't appear to require sleep. He spends the hours he'd use sleeping doing other things.

The kid can't seem to get drunk. Not even on a magical sugar high, no matter how much he wants to give in to it.

Pretty doubtful that this is the game. Barring this being a glitch in the code of space-time and all, that is. One that belatedly triggered a questline I haven't got an NPC to gain the objective from, with no two-person town to visit or item to gather to progress with, with nary an obnoxious flashing exclamation point to even indicate where the fuck I need to go. Don't get me wrong. It could be. It just somehow feels like something a fuck of a lot worse.

Personality: Dirk Strider is most definitely not your average teenage boy. Although rather quiet, he has an intensity about him that makes him rather hard to ignore. The word "half-assed" is not in his vocabulary. Dirk goes 110 percent at every single thing he does, overachieving and aiming high. At his worst, he's controlling, pushy, very strange, and a bit of an insufferable know-it-all. Even excluding the downright bizarreness of some of the things he says and does, there is no mistaking this young man as anything other than an undeniable freak of nature. Dirk is intense, for lack of a better word. His friends remark that he has a way of getting exactly what he wants, through mind games and force, and has said himself that he is in control at all times.
It's unsurprising, given that Dirk goes so far to refer to himself as the one pulling all of the strings. He places Jane in the role of leader, but adds that it will be "in name only" as he plans on manipulating every event behind the scenes. He moves his friends something like chess pieces, never really stopping to ask if they're alright with his plans or revealing them beyond what he absolutely has to. He thinks that he can do it all. He even thinks i's expected of him. Never forthright with what he intends to do, Dirk relies on a lot of manipulative tactics. He plays a constant mindgame with Jake to try to get him to be more skeptical, using the autoresponder to keep him on his toes and never certain whether he's speaking to the real Strider or the one inside the glasses. Dirk also uses a lot of "I" statements to sway opinion without directly telling people what to do. He makes it seem as though he's just offering his input and a long explanation of the reasoning behind it, leaving them free to do as they wish but making it clear what he thinks would be best. This occasionally breaks, leaving him stating what he thinks seems to be obvious and he will leave no room for argument. As well as less than gentle means, taking the Brobot and it's brutal treatment of Jake in order to shape him into, in Dirk's own words, a "killing machine". We see this in how his Pre-Scratch self treats Dave, playing a constant game of cat and mouse often ending in a rough Strife session.
Even so, he does genuinely mean well. Dirk cares for his friends. His best trait is his love for them. He makes it clear that he's there for them no matter what, offering comfort to both Roxy and Jane when they need it. He understands more than anyone else the gravity of their situation. As well as the inevitability that comes with the game. What he's doing is trying to prepare them for it. That doesn't make his tactics good or right, but he seems to consider himself the one who knows best. Dirk would never willingly hurt them - he'd hurt himself first. He would willingly kill himself to ensure their safety - and has!
This also leads to a problem where he tries to take too much on himself. Dirk stated that he does not sleep. He is constantly conscious, whether in Derse or in the waking world. He juggles two waking selves at once and because of this he tends to zone out for long periods of time in one world or the other. Additionally, he spends much time micromanaging events and people. As if his dual identities isn't enough, he claims to have built robots for the purpose of managing everything he can't at the time. All in all, way too much on this plate - he's willing to acknowledge it, but will never willingly lessen the load placed upon his shoulders. Dirk cannot give up his control, no matter how much he would like to. Dirk also makes a regular habit of long, winding extended metaphors. His explanations are rarely short and concise, though his responses to every day conversation may be as much as a single word. Also characteristic to his speaking patterns is the random flourishes of vocabulary admist an otherwise dry and to the point dialogue.
He's a smart guy. He's been able to build fully functioning combat robots for years, not even touching on the fact that he has created AI at a very young age. Squarewave, Lil Seb, Brobot, the Auto-Responder, and Sawtooth are all his own creation, each with a distinct personality and habits. Dirk doesn't believe in just viewing them as cold, emotionless programs. He's adamant about treating them equally, not even leaving the auto-responder just for it's intended task of answering or handling things that he can't. He gives them as much room to thrive as he possibly can - even if he realizes that there's a danger to it. Dirk has a plan for every possible scenario - so long as there's a scenario happening. He doesn't take well to waiting. He's a man of action, not one of patience. Relying on other people to progress drives him a little batty.
He's acutely aware of his every fault. Dirk is surrounded by people of his own making. His Bro died centuries before he was born, leaving him to be raised by nothing but himself and the reflections of himself. And Lil Cal. In his dystopian future he's nearly entirely alone. It's a pretty lonely existence. He refers to Lil Cal, an apparently heirloom of his brother's, as his "best friend" and refuses to harm him though he's been informed that Cal might actually be dangerous. Dirk attaches sentimental value on things and highly respects the life, or at least the cognitive workings, of his creations. This is entirely unsurprising as, again, they are the only people anywhere near him. He sees himself in them and picks out the problems with their personalities, their plans, and their actions - all the while acknowledging these faults as his own.
